Grow is an ephemeral project made from 5 materials. It is a living, breathing project that is edible and cared for to keep the project alive, creating a form of design intervention.
Exploring who I am is an auto-ethnographical project that communicates the places and events that have influenced me and how I see design.
Plaza of the Americas, much like Alachua County and UF is known as a place where culture meets nature. This project follows a day in the life of a UF design student.
Florida | A State of Crisis or Resilience?
This poster seeks to include the impacts of development of Florida’s waterways, as well as the benefits, challenges, and suggestions for further education through visual design. The basis of the poster will include aspects to expand and utilize on one of Florida’s most vulnerable natural resources, water. The goal of creating this is to bring awareness to heavily used sources of water that often have negative impacts on local communities and wildlife through the use of design and visual communications. The continued development, pollution, and struggle to establish acceptable regulations for water quality in Florida are some of the perceived water concerns in the “Sunshine State”. As the third most populous state in the U.S. and the continued desire for people to call it home, it is even more necessary to discuss and show concern for the water issues Floridians face. The demand for water use in Florida plays a crucial role in the depletion of the Floridan Aquifer, one of the most productive in the world, ensuring the health of the Floridan aquifer also ensures the health of our ecosystems and waterways. An approach towards a more sustainably developed state is important when taking into consideration that all residences, commercial, and agricultural production use water for various needs.
Raising awareness to the public’s perception of water use and its outcomes are crucial as they are consumers of the natural resource. By visualizing the bottling of the Floridan Aquifer and the waterways that flow through Florida, such as the St. Johns, the state’s largest river it could show residents that natural resources are more than an item to be bottled and sold, that it is worth fighting for. The degradation and commercialization of the water in Florida directly hurts its residents, tourism, and overall health of the state. Florida will lose its desirability and uniqueness once the springs, beaches, salt marshes, rivers and other irreplaceable waterways are polluted or overlooked. I think it is crucial for everyone to know that they have a voice that can make a difference or positive change, by being an advocate for the environment and being knowledgeable about one’s carbon footprint, we can help ensure that future generations can enjoy the same natural wonders that we have.
